LEGO titles were always a fascinating
type of video games, almost creating a sub-genre for its
adventure-like, easy and entertaining gameplay. Many would say, that
Marvel Universe and LEGO is seemingly a wonderful combination – or
is it?
Call me childish, but LEGO games aren't
actually only meant for children. They have a lot to offer even to
the slightly older population, like me, who just want to relax after
a day and/or just have nothing better to do. These games are very,
very easy; and while this particular game does sometimes leave you wondering, where should you proceed, the majority of time, you will always know
what to do.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes continues the
same trend as the rest of its brethren, with the same basic gameplay
and mechanics seen first in the good old LEGO Star Wars, but this
time in another well-known universe – that of Marvel Comics, with
its slightly futuristic New York City, and an endless reservoir of
characters to draw from.
That's probably one of the things I
love most about this game – it is a comprehensive look on the Marvel
Universe, and while it's focusing mainly on its most known super
heroes in its story mode, the adventure mode (or however are they
calling it) is the one with the most fun. Have you ever wanted to be
Venom and chase The Hulk, or to play as tiny version of Magneto? This
game allows it. In its weird, childish LEGO way.
The main storyline has 10 or so levels
and its story is quite a boring one to be honest – but, of course,
this game is mostly meant for little kids; and thus, I shouldn't
complain too much. But what thrilled me was the actual design of the
missions – there is an underwater mission or even a mission within
the Statue of Liberty itself.
The game features are connected with a GTA-like
sandbox LEGO New York, where you can complete side missions, unlock
new characters, or just fly/walk/slide/trample and explore the
characters. It's really just to collect the hilarious amount of
collectibles in this game; so if you're the kind of person who likes
that, you've got another plus.

But that's what bugs me the most about LEGO games and their very nature – they're just some sort of guilty pleasure, which, when you play through, will never remember again – and yes, I know, it is a children's game, and I really shouldn't complain about it... I just wish it would amaze me somehow.
Verdict:
8/10
Lego
Marvel Super Heroes is probably the best LEGO game I've played so
far. It has an array of playable characters, thrilling atmosphere and
relaxing mood, which is all I ever wanted from it; but, in the end,
it's just a children's game; nothing more.
