What is The Future of Gaming?

How will games be played in upcoming years? How will rapidly evolving technology change the way we perceive video gaming in general?  Games are graphically progressing further and faster towards photo-realism and soon there will be no room in improvement in that area, artificial intelligence is not that much improving and some would say, that gameplay even degraded in previous decades.

In this article, I'll try to lay down some of the most interesting theories about our gaming future and discuss them further.

Virtual Reality gaming

First possible outcome is from my perspective also the most probable one. We are seeing some progress in this area now already, mainly in the form of Occulus Rift, which is however still not widely supported and not available for general public to purchase.

I do think that this device-driven virtual reality will expand a lot in upcoming years. I believe, that we will reach 99 % photo realism of video gaming graphics around 2025, and photo realistic virtual reality won't be far behind, maybe in a few decades after, in form of devices like Occulus, only much evolved. These could offer absolutely believable experience with endless possibilities, and with very asocial individuals it could soon surpass the real world.

Full Virtual Reality

There is a website named FutureTimeline, which hosts some very crazy-sounding future forecasts, with nanotechnology making its way in every aspect of our lives and giving us myriad of almost sci-fi sounding benefits.

It says, that in 2040s, there will be a possibility to insert nanobots into your brain, which could on your command „sit“ on various nerve connections that make your senses functional, and inject them with false information.

That would make possible not only gaming, but you could go anywhere in the world (on a virtual vacation) from the comfort of your home. You could visit Azeroth or Coruscant in absolutely convincing manner and live your virtual live there.

Yes, people – maybe in hundred years, we will live as immortal beings in Matrix. Crazy future, is it not.

Continuous development of today's gaming

This is probably only a matter for next ten or so years, but I include it nonetheless. The cloud gaming will grow, by my opinion – with internetspeed reaching every year higher and higher potential – it will more and more replace traditional downloading/buying of a game.

Games will reach amazing graphics and developers will put greater and greater emphasis on PC for its potential, I think. PC has been on the rise for several years now; the new consoles will slow it, but they're already behind. Developers will put much greater emphasis on social features – in few years, it will already search friends for us – based on games, hobbies, and so on.

Basically the things you would expect.

Whatever has the future prepared for us in gaming, be sure to let me know what you think in the comments and share this post on whatever sharing site you like.
